The Origins of Oriental Chintz Design
by John Irwin, Antiques, The Magazine, January 1959, 4 pages, 8 good size pictures, B&W, of 17th century chintz and palampores. He is THE researcher on chintz. "This article compresses the result of detailed research over a long period by Mr. Irwin, who is deputy keeper of the Indian section of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London." Eventually he wrote the book "The Origins of Chintz" which is almost impossible to find or afford these days.

This issue also has a short piece on Baroque textiles from an exhibition at the Scalamandre Museum of Textiles, with 3 B&W pictures.

It shows some wear at the top and bottom of the binding, but is fully in tact and clean from marks. Cover is not faded. Cover has a few rings on it . 119 pages total.
Price: US $25.00 plus shipping: your mode of choice.

English Printed Textiles, Postscript: New Discoveries
by Peter Floud; Antiques, The Magazine, April 1958, 4 pages of text with 11 B&W pictures of chintz made with copperplate technique in the 17th century . From John Nixon's Printworks and others in England, the Wares and John Munns. "The purpose of this additional article is to draw attention to some of the earliest and most interesting of these new examples, none of which appears to have been illustrated before." This article came after the Floud series in 1957, as these textiles had not yet been uncovered.

Other articles of interest in this issue are: "Wallpapers used in America, 1700-1800" by Horace L. Hotchkiss, Jr.; "The Decorative Arts in French Museums" by Ruth Davidson; Shop Talk shows two chintz panels, two hooked rugs and wallpaper hand blocked in France which could be ordered in toile.

The magazine is fully in tact, no tears, color cover not faded. I bought it with water damage near the top, rippled the pages, but isn't bad and doesn't ruin any text or pictures. 97 pgs.
Price: US $25.00 plus shipping: your mode of choice.
